Bummer. Thank you for sharing the detailed description of your post-crash experience - I had woozy flashbacks reading it. I'm glad you were not seriously injured, all things considered. Nevertheless, I had strong reaction that I think may be worth sharing. I don't want to tell anyone what to do, but...

You may know this already, but based how you described your mental and physical state imediately after the incident, you were in shock. Medical shock is a well-defined medical condition distinct from the conversational definition of the word, "shock." I'm not a doctor, but I know that shock can be a life threatening condition by itself, and may delay the discovery of other severe internal or spinal injuries. I recommend doing a bit of research on the topic, at least enough so that you can recognize the symptoms of shock.

One of the debillitating symptoms is disorientation and lack of sound-judgement, which basically means that you cannot adequately assess your own injuries.

Bottom line: 911. If someone asks if you need an ambulance, consider saying yes, regardless of whether you think you need one or not. Especially if you are riding alone. End lecture ;-)

Hey, glad to know you are alright. You were lucky, and it sucks that this happened at all. Stay safe, hope you feel better soon.

In a way, scrapes with death (and that's what this was) remind us of how precious life is and how close we all are to the next big trip. Hold onto life, and think about the morning that you woke up after this accident as the sweetest day of your life because you realize just how close you came to not having that moment at all. I'm sure it didn't feel peachy-keen, but you were able to feel, and that's worth something, considering the alternative.

Holy fucking shit dude. Scary stuff. I'm so sorry. My first instinct is to document, document, document. You did a great job here and it's easy to keep track of medical stuff. For eventual legal action but also for processing what's going on in your head. And why not plaster the area of the accident? Make sure to put specific information like the phone number to the EPD and the report number. Take care of yourself please.

Wow scary story. Keep us updated on what comes of it. I'm in a similar situation at the moment. Going to a lawyer tomorrow to ask for advice on what to do.
We're all glad your okay and come out relatively okay. Hope you recover fast and they get the guy.

Man I feel your pain, reports like this always have me shaking and upset too. I was rear-ended in London years ago, Thankfully the driver stopped and actually took me to my destination, and subsequently his insurance paid for the repairs to my bike.
I hope you recover soon.
Don't avoid the hospital though.

Awful, sorry to hear about it. Hit and Runs suck for obvious reasons, but it's also a total betrayal of trust. You trust that the dude behind the wheel beside you or behind you has enough common sense to not hit you, and if they do hit you, enough humanity to stop and help. I hope they catch the guy, but as you've said it's hard to hold out hope for it.

Although even if you never see justice "practical karma" usually takes care of people who go through life like that (my theory being that if they did it to you, they'll do enough stuff at that level that they'll eventually pay for it).

The 1st must have been bike-crash day though, I dumped my bike after hitting some slippery streetcar tracks on my ride home and then subsequently hit a car (reversal!!) with my head. You'll be happy to know I was rocking a ZPG patch in plain sight on my bag during the entire embarrassing slide, head-first, into the underside of the mini-van!

Cheers,
