Still fall here in NC, but I did commute through what is left of Ida. Not too bad even though the green way I take runs along the storm flood area. Back Creek was fuller than usual but not over-flowing onto the trail. Of course there were puddles. I need to find a way to keep my feet dry (at least mostly) before the temperature drops more.

Gotta add some fun to your life. Although I have a car, access to a carsharing fleet, and great bus service, I choose to bike to work in the winter. It's fun, it's rewarding, and I love knowing that I don't spend all day in a warmed up bubble.

Winter is the best time to ride, IMHO. When brakes and gears on my trusty mountain bike are variable at best, and there's not a bit of skin exposed. And the glasses fog up with exhaled moisture.

And motorists stare at me, in shock. And I smile the invisible grin back at them ... with their $500 casket deductibles and 'winter weight' woes.

I still beat the car and bus home in the dead of winter when the snow is over the hubs. It makes my touring roadster all that much sweeter when Spring rolls around.
